Poderi Angelini
Puglia
Founded in 1998, the Poderi Angelini vineyards are in Salento, the heart of Manduria. Close to the Ionian sea, the 85 acres benefit from the warm sun of Southern Italy as well as the cool breezes that blow in form the Ionian Sea.
The Angelini family were predominantly grape growers. In 2006, they transitioned over to winemaking with the aid of the well known enologist Domenico Colucci. The mission of this winery has always been to produce excellent quality wines from local grapes such as Primitivo, Negroamaro, Fiano as well from international varieties such as Chardonnay. There is a strong focus on practicing sustainable agriculture.
The thing about Puglia is that because of the warm weather, it is easy to get good sugar levels. Acidity is another matter. It is a testament to their vineyard management and winemaking that Poderi Angelini makes wines with both fruit and acidity. New oak is not generally used allowing for a better expression of the grapes.
If you want to explore the wines of Puglia, go no further than Poderi Angelini.
